Real Time with Bill Maher

There are very few shows I watch religiously, but Real Time is one of them.   This week the special guest was the brother of Pat Tillman.  One of the things I found interesting about the interview was that 52% of the US casualties in Afghanistan and Iraq are friendly fire.  That's quite an outrageous number.

Suggested Watching

I tend to watch and documentary or informational TV show I can get my hands on.   Every now and then I'll post a movie or TV series I believe will make you think about the world around you.  For the inaugural suggested watching,  I have chosen B.S. from Penn and Teller.

B.S.  recently finished its eighth season on Showtime.  Every episode they tackle a topic with as much biased as possible.  It is less a documentary series and more an opinion series.  Both Penn and Teller are fellows at the Cato Institute, which is a libertarian think-tank.  So the show tends to lean towards a libertarian viewpoint.   I find this show to be very informative. Both on the topic at hand and as a starter guide to libertarianism, which is not an angle normally seen in main stream media.

"Everybody Pray for Hitchens Day" is insulting.

Famed atheist and author of the book "God is Not Great: How Religion Poisons Everything"  Christopher Hitchens found out in June of this year that he had
esophageal cancer.  Apparently some form of internet movement led to Monday being unofficially made a sort of holiday in backhandedly supporting Hitchens in his fight.  He has declined to participate in his own "holiday", for obvious reasons. The upsetting part of this story to myself is that I highly doubt and Christian organization would proclaim a holiday for a practitioner of another face.  I'm sure the Jewish community would be outraged if Christians felt the need to proclaim a day as "Let's give Mel Brooks a Christmas" Day.
